Elizabeth McCready

Elizabeth McCready is a Toronto-based communications strategist and digital content creator with a professional background spanning education, communications, events, and civic engagement. A life-long learner, she went back to school at the University of Toronto full-time for two semesters in January, 2025. She completed her project management certificate at The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies in August, 2024, with a 94% average and has kept her advanced marketing certificate average above 90%. In September, 2025 Elizabeth is continuing on with one course a term, running her new podcast—Curb Cuts and Conversations, and seeking a position in marketing in the urban development, transit, and civic government sectors. Elizabeth brings a strategic, human-centered approach to storytelling, audience engagement, and brand communication.

With over 15,000 volunteer hours, she is deeply embedded in the civic life of Toronto, contributing to organizations such as the Royal Ontario Museum and the City of Toronto Cultural Events Team. As the creator and host of the Curb Cuts and Conversations podcast, she uses video, blog, and podcast platforms to spotlight accessibility, urbanism, and transit through a lived experience lens.

Elizabeth combines her expertise in digital strategy, accessibility, and stakeholder engagement with her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in urban planning to support inclusive city-building. Her values: connection, universal design, and kindness—are at the heart of her communications work.

Volunteer Work

Elizabeth has over 15,000 volunteer hours in positions ranging from events staff, leadership, and board of directors. On December 19, 2009 she was an Olympic Torchbearer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics for her committment to volunteer work and community service.

A former ROM summer staff during her undergraduate degrees, Elizabeth returned to the ROM as a volunteer in October 2024. She provides visitors with hands-on experiences with artifacts and natural history specims. One of her favourite objects is the gauntlet from a suit of armour—especially during the monthly ROM After Dark after hours events. Seeing adults so exicited about putting on the gauntlet is wonderful.

City of Toronto Cultural Events

Project Assistant | Behind the Scenes Assistant | Events Staff

Elizabeth works as a team with other volunteers, City staff, and artists to ensure the success of major cultural events in Toronto. She has been involved with Doors Open since the early 2000s in Hamilton, Ontario. It's a wonderful event that connects people to the interesting places in our city that we don't usually see—like the Toronto City Hall Observation deck.

Pride Toronto

Accessibilty Assistant

Elizabeth works as a team with other volunteers and Pride Toronto staff at the accessiblity tent. She assists festival goers with free rentals of wheelchairs and rollators and provides directons and support.

Getting into the sprit of Pride is an important part of being a volunteer representative of Pride Toronto. So Elizabeth "glams up" with purple glitter makeup that matches the purple accents on her wheelchair and co-ordinates with the pink volunteer t-shirts. During Pride Toronto 2025 Accessible Media Inc interviewed Elizabeth and featured her (with her festival makeup) in their coverage of the event on YouTube.

Events and Marketing Staff

For over two years Elizabeth volunteered at numerous events for Toronto Javascript. Along with other volunteers she restarted the pre-pandemic pub socials (formerly called "Beer Script") and rebranded them as a more inclusive "PubScript" event held at a wheelchair accessible English-themed pub near a wheelchair accessible subway station. Liz designed the PubScript logo and promo materials in Figma using the London UK Tube roundals as inspiration. She was invited to start the Accessibilty Team and the Volunteer Team before moving on to her position at the ROM.

GoGeomatics Canada

GeoIgnite 2020 Conference

After seeing the quality of her work as part of the volunteer content and newsletter writing team, Geomatics Canada leadership offered Elizabeth a paid contract for the first online national GeoIgnite Conference in 2020. She created and edited the conference materials, press releases, and presenter packages (including "What is Zoom and How to Use It."). She also wrote the talk summary for the very engaging Lord of the Rings themed conference talk "There and back again"by the Director of Avenza software, Nick Burchell.

Odyssey Heights

Alternative Education Program

Seeing a need for tailored alternative education for girls with ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilties, and giftedness, Elizabeth developed a "learning-pod" style program for a small group of girls in 2018-2019. To market the program she grew a new Twitter account from 0 to over 500 followers, created a Constant Contact newsletter with double the industry open rate, and created a brand guideline.

Bruce Trail

As the Volunteer and Membership Director Elizabeth worked in tandem with the Finance Director to successfully be awarded a $100,000 Trillium grant for the organization.
